 　SMAPの木村拓哉が 今年10月スタートの連続ドラマ『南極大陸～神の領域に挑んだ男と犬の物語～(仮)』（毎週日曜・後9時～ TBS系）に主演することが19日、わかった。原作は『南極越冬隊タロジロの真実』〈北村泰一著・小学館刊〉で、同局の開局60周年を記念し初のドラマ化 となる。プロデューサーは『ROOKIES』や『JIN -仁-』など男達の熱いドラマを扱い次々とヒット作を生んだ石丸彰彦氏。09年放送の脳科学者を主人公にした『Mr.BRAIN』（すべて同局系）以来の 再タッグとなる。撮影はまだ始まっていないが、木村は「今は台本を読んでいる段階ですが、読む度に“熱く”なります。現場は恐ろしく寒いでしょうけど」 と、2月以降のクランクインを待ち望んでいる。

　過去に総理大臣、パイロット、検察官など様々な職業を演じてきた木村が今回挑むのは“第一次南極越冬隊副隊長”だ。1983年に俳優・高倉健主演で公開 された映画『南極物語』は、当時の歴代映画興行成績で首位を独走した不朽の名作。20年以上の時を経て、同じ作者の体験記を原案としながらも新たな南極越 冬隊が誕生する。時代は昭和30年代の日本。戦争に負け “敗戦国”としてのレッテルを世界から貼られるなか、第一次南極観測隊が誕生し、奮闘する姿をドラマ化。

　日本に割り当てられた観測場所は氷点下50度、風速100メートルのブリザードが吹き荒れる“インアクセシブル（接近不可能）”な場所。世界から全く期 待されていなかった日本の観測隊の男達、そして彼らと運命を共にした樺太犬19頭の物語。南極大陸に命がけで挑んだ一人の若き学者と、大切な“同士”との 絆を描く。

主演を務める木村は「作品の内容・撮影とも、インアクセシブル(inaccessible)“接近不可能”な領域に挑む事になるので、余計にワクワクして います」と極寒の地での撮影にも全く物おじしない様子。「早く皆さんと現場で会いたいです」と、2月の撮影スタートを前に心を躍らせている。そんな木村と 再タッグを組む石丸氏も「戦後10年の日本が初めて一つになったと言われている一大プロジェクト『南極観』。決して諦めなかった日本の象徴ともいうべき物 語を今こそやるべきだ」と熱く意気込む。さらに「諦める事なく南極大陸を目指した日本。その日本の想いを背負った男たちとその”同士”である犬たちが挑ん だその生き様から、日本が再び一つにまとまることが今こそ必要なのではないか、そう感じてもらえるような作品」と、見どころを語った。

　木村が演じる・倉持岳志のライバルとなる大蔵省勤務の氷室晴彦役には『JOKER 許されざる捜査官』（フジテレビ系）で話題をさらった堺雅人、越冬隊隊長には昨年の大河ドラマ『龍馬伝』（NHK総合）でひときわ存在感を放った香川照 之、後輩役に若手俳優・山本裕典、そのほか寺島進、緒形直人、柴田恭兵ら実力派として知られる共演者が集合した。来月からクランクインし10月を完成目処 と制作期間も長期にわたり、極寒の地・南極でのロケも検討。“民放の大河ドラマ”と銘打うたれた同作は、開局60周年に恥じない総力を挙げての超大作とな る。
