　人気グループ「SMAP」の木村拓哉さんが主演を務める連続ドラマ「南極大陸」（TBS系）の第2話が23日午後9時から10分拡大スペシャルで放送さ れ、平均視聴率は19．0％（ビデオリサーチ調べ、関東地区）、瞬間最高視聴率は午後10時1分の時点で21．4％だった。16日に放送された初回は平均 視聴率22．2％を獲得しており、今回も好調をキープした。

　ドラマは、北村泰一さんの「南極越冬隊タロジロの真実」（小学館）が原案で、TBS開局60周年記念作品として、2月から半年以上にわたり撮影、制作さ れた大作。木村さんは第1次南極越冬隊副隊長で地質学の研究者・倉持岳志を演じ、戦後最大の国家プロジェクトとなった南極観測を、熱い絆で結ばれた仲間や 樺太犬とともに命懸けで挑む。ヒロインで倉持の義理の妹・高岡美雪役を、綾瀬はるかさんが演じ、木村さんと「MR．BRAIN」以来約2年ぶりに共演して いる。

　第2話は、南極へと旅立った南極観測船「宗谷」で、第一次南極観測隊副隊長の星野（香川照之さん）が隊長の白崎（柴田恭兵さん）に、南極越冬の許可を懇 願するが、いきなりの越冬は自殺行為だと反対される。その頃、船内では船酔いをする隊員たちが続出。南シナ海では大型台風で運行に問題はないものの、船体 の一部を破損してしまう。また、インド洋では灼熱の太陽にさらされ、厳しい航海にストレスがたまった隊員たちは、ささいなことで取っ組み合いのケンカまで 起こすようになる。倉持（木村さん）たちは越冬に一番必要な結束力が失われる状況に追い込まれていく……という展開だった。（毎日新聞デジタル）
