「映画の『南極物語』っていうのは、南極に置き去りになったタロとジロが生きていたというエピソードがメインにドーンときていたお話だったんですけ れども、現在僕らが撮影に励んでいます『南極大陸』はですね、戦後の日本の苦悩の時代からスタートしていまして。実際に南極行きが決定するまでの経緯とか も話の中に織り込まれているんです。」（6日の『木村拓哉のWHAT’S UP SMAP!』TOKYO FM）

木村拓哉が、主演する10月放送予定のドラマ『南極大陸』について触れているところです。TBS開局60周年番組として制作されている大作が、徐々にそのヴェールを脱ぎつつあります。

今月号の『月刊ザ・テレビジョン』カラーページには、放送までまだ時間があるにもかかわらず、「クランクイン」の様子が見開きで報じられました。

同誌では、木村が演じるのは倉持岳・第一次南極越冬隊副隊長（地質学者）。グラビアページの写真では、犬ぞりを引っ張ったり、渾身の演技の後、倒れ込んだりする木村の熱演ぶりを紹介しています。

「現 場がすごくいい雰囲気で、こういうタフな状況がみんなの方向性を一つにしてくれているし、スタッフと出演者の境目がなくなっていいですね。動かなくなった スノーモービルをみんなで持ち上げるとか。こういう現場から撮影をスタートできて、いいんじやないですか」とコメントする木村。

南極ではない“南極風”のロケ地は北海道であることも明かされていますが、冒頭の『WHAT’S UP……』で木村はさらに具体的に「根室湾に押し寄せた流氷の上」と公表しています。

「要は、浮いている氷の上をオレらは犬と一緒に、まあ犬に引っ張ってもらって走るシーンを撮影させてもらったんですよ。要所要所、よーく気をつけて ないと、海に落ちるスポットが、いくつもあるんですね。流氷だから。15、6頭の犬のみなさん。だから、そこらへんはガチで、割れ目は絶対避けてねってい う感じで、もうホントに祈るような思いで、本番は見事、誰一人として、犬も、倉持役の僕にしても、一同落ちる人間はいなかったんですけど、その撮影が無事 終わりまして、移動しまーすってなったときに、スタッフが二人落ちてましたね。クビまで。極寒の根室で、人が流氷の間から海に落ちるとですね、これ、笑え ないです。緊急事態になります（と言いながら笑う、どちらかというと苦笑か）」

ずいぶん辛そうなロケですが、木村に言わせると「現場に入ってみたら天国でした」とか。その理由は……。

キムタクは子どもの頃、団地住まいだったので動物を飼えず、その時に見た『南極物語』に憧れていたからだそうです。そう、この仕事、彼は幼少の頃からの夢が叶ったのです。だから「天国」というわけです。

そんな彼が、この仕事で張り切らないわけがありません。
