～未知への挑戦～　南極物語

1955年、竹中工務店は、南極昭和基地建設においてその計画段階から参画し、未知の環境と格闘しながら南極の昭和基地建設に多大な貢献をしました。また、その研究開発の成果は次なる時代の建築工業生産化への第一歩となったのです。

南極から40年ぶりに第1次観測隊用の建物が帰ってきました。

40年の南極観測の歴史の中で、多くの隊員の様々な研究を支えてきた昭和基地の初期観測用建物が、極寒の風雪に耐え、今回無事日本 に帰還しました。わが国初のプレハブ住宅として工業化住宅の礎となったこの建物は、未知への挑戦のシンボルともいえましょう。開発にたずさわった諸先輩の 知恵をたたえ、苦労を偲び、今ここにその知られざる一面をご紹介します。
